Open map

During the Continuation War, in the summer of 1943, the villages of Yli-Vuokki, Tuppuri, Hyry, Malahvia, and Viianki, were subjected to partisan raids by Soviet forces, in which dozens of civilians were killed and wounded. Four memorials have been erected in their memory, with signs located along Malahviantie road. The names of the civilian victims are marked on the memorials, and there are also guest books at the sites.

Military history of the Vienan reitti

The history of the Vienan reitti is also impressive military history. The battles of the Winter War on the Raatteentie road left their mark on the terrain. The area indeed has marked battle sites and trenches on maps. In logging areas, battle sites and other cultural heritage sites are marked in the terrain with a group of felled logs or individual felled trees.

During the Winter and Continuation Wars, the residents had to evacuate and return to burnt villages with only a few buildings left. Consequently, the majority of the villages buildings were constructed after 1944.
