Vienan reitti ry was founded on 28.7.2019 in Hietajärvi heritage farm in Yli-Vuoki, Suomussalmi.
Objectives of the association
The purpose of the association is to promote and develop the Viena route, to preserve the Kalevian cultural heritage of the route, to develop nature and cultural tourism on the route and to make the route known in Finland and internationally.
To achieve its objectives, the association:
- develops, maintains and manages the Viena Trail and Waterway, alone or in cooperation with other operators
- participates in planning and decision-making on the Viena route, prepares plans for the route
studies and initiatives and gives opinions to the authorities - organise walking, cycling, canoeing, camping, skiing, dog sledding, reindeer and horse riding and other cultural activities on the route.
- organise seminars, exhibitions and other events on Viena's culture, history and nature, and promote scientific research and studies on the subject.
- to carry out information and awareness-raising activities related to the Vientiane route
- works in cooperation with other communities, such as the Vuoki and Raatte village associations,
Vuokkiniemi Village Council, Juminkeko Foundation, Poetry Academy and other Kalevala
with cultural organisations, landowners, municipalities and local authorities.
The association aims to implement the report ”Vuoki route to Viena. Action Model (2017) in cooperation with the signatories, Kainuu ELY Centre, Kainuu Regional Council, Metsähallitus, Finnish Forestry Centre, Suomussalmi Municipality and Vuoki Village Association.
