The purpose of the association is to develop the the Vienan reitti, to preserve the Kalevala cultural heritage of the route, to organise nature and cultural tourism on the route and to promote the region in Finland and Europe. One of the tasks is to protect the cultural and historical value of the Vienan reitti, which is only partially protected by the Antiquities Act.
